The Magic Lantern Phantasmagoria Show. Old Salem, 900 Old Salem Road, Winston-Salem. Marking its debut in North Carolina, Old Salem is pleased to host the Magic Lantern Phantasmagoria Show on October 21. The Victorian Halloween show is an exciting, interactive experience for both children and adults. Performances will be at 11 a.m. and 1, 2, and 3 p.m. and last approximately 30 minutes each. This show is the first in a series of Halloween events in Old Salem. The cost is $8 for adults, $5 for children 6-16, or free with the Old Salem All-In-One Ticket. Advance tickets will go on sale at the Old Salem Visitor Center beginning October 1, 2006.

Historic Bethabara Park. A great day in the Park for owners and lovers of ‘man's best friend.'  Participate in the Blessing of the Dogs, games, and a grand parade through the Park.  1:30-4:30 p.m.

Nancy Roberts, Storyteller. Old Salem, 900 Old Salem Road, Winston-Salem. Nationally known writer of ghost and pirate tales, Nancy Roberts will be Old Salem's special guest on Sunday, October 22 at 2:00 p.m. as she presents a fun, entertaining talk featuring ghost stories of the Carolinas. Roberts' storytelling is unlike any other and her tales will remain with you long after her session is over. A book signing will follow the program. Fee is $5 or free with the Old Salem All-In-One ticket. MESDA Auditorium. Advance tickets will go on sale at the Old Salem Visitor Center beginning October 1, 2006.

Trick or Treat: Halloween Collectibles from the Old Salem Toy Collection. Old Salem, 900 Old Salem Road, Winston-Salem. Lecture, presented buy Collections Manager, Abilgail Linville. Presented in the MESDA Auditorium at 12:00 p.m. Admission is free and guests are encouraged to bring a bag lunch. Light refreshments provided.

It Was a Dark and Spooky Song. Old Salem, 900 Old Salem Road, Winston-Salem. Old Salem is pleased to present a debut performance by opera star Valerie Nicolosi as she presents "It Was a Dark and Spooky Night". No matter how many times you hear it, Schubert's Lied The Erlking is guaranteed to shorten your breathing and raise prickles on the back of your neck! Nicolosi has assembled a hauntingly beautiful selection representing the dark nights of history's greatest composers. The evening will also include some non-spooky songs by composers whose lives themselves were a little scary. This spine-tingling program is perfect for the "spooky" time of the year! Nicolosi's concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and includes an intermission. Cost is $10 in advance or $12 at the door. Advance tickets will go on sale at the Old Salem Visitor Center beginning October 1, 2006.

The Legends and Lanterns Tour. Old Salem, 900 Old Salem Road, Winston-Salem. Back by popular demand, Old Salem will once again offer special guided evening tours of some of Salem's more "spirited" buildings. Tours will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will run every 15 minutes until 8:45 p.m. $15 per adult and $10 children ages 6-16. Tickets on sale beginning October 1.

October 28
A Halloween Story: Clomp, Wiggle, Shake, Clap, Nod and Boo. Old Salem, 900 Old Salem Road, Winston-Salem.
