The 11th Annual OUT at the Movies International Film Festival

Join us on October 3rd - 6th for the 11th annual OUT at the Movies International Film Festival. Our organization has been showcasing groundbreaking cinema from around the world for over 20 years, building a strengthened LGBTQ+ & Ally community in the process. And this year's lineup of films is our strongest yet. With over 40 documentary and narrative films ranging a wide gamut of genre, subject matter, and tone, there's little bit of something for everyone at this year's festival.

When they find paradise in a local village and carve out their own lesbian community, tensions simmer with the local residents. With both groups claiming ownership of lesbian identity, filmmaker Tzeli Hadjidimitriou—a native and lesbian herself—is caught in the middle while chronicling 40+ years of love, community, conflict, and what it means to feel accepted.

Nabil is reminded of his mother, a seamstress and fashion designer, when he learns that Malibu sews all her outfits, and asks Malibu to teach him his mother's craft.

Sally Gearhart was a lesbian-feminist firebrand, professor, and fantasy author who spearheaded the 1970s and 80s U.S. lesbian feminist movement. This fantastic documentary peels back the proverbial (and patriarchal) layers to reveal the collectivist reality behind our heroine’s story while exploring the complex relationship between spokeswomen like Sally and movements for social change, as well as the collective (if chaotic) nature of revolutionary movements and their icons.

OSCAR WILDE ABOUT AMERICA - Centerpiece Screening

Oscar Wilde About America reimagines Wilde’s 1882 American tour as a present day cross-country roadtrip. This big-hearted romp from New York City to Hollywood, CA leads Oscar to the queer joy, love, and liberation that eluded him 141 years ago, with the attendant themes of diversity, identity, and inclusion beautifully expressed in the film's original song, "Be Yourself, Everyone Else Is Taken", based on one of Wilde's most popular quotes. Filmed in London and in multiple locations across the United States (including Winston-Salem!), the film stars West End star Oscar Conlon-Morrey as Oscar Wilde, and features film/tv/stage veterans Rosemary Harris and Kate Burton.

Angie has no legal claim to the flat and must depend on the fading kindness of Pat's family. Even though they split costs equally, Pat was the one who handled all financial details of their life together. With the help of her chosen family, Angie must start a journey of self-reliance.

Kuch Sapney Apne is a sensitive and heartwarming film about relationships, queer or not, and what happens when relationships are challenged by uncomfortable truths. This feature is a sequel to the Hindi feature film, Evening Shadows, which won 27 awards & screened at 82 film festivals, including twice at OUT at the Movies.

Matias, an Argentine filmmaker in his forties, is struggling to finish a movie inspired by the memory of his elusive first love, Alexander, a Swedish friend he met at an international school in the 90’s. Tenderness and fascination define their strong friendship, which is short-lived when Alexander is expelled from school, leaving young Matias with an unresolved story and multiple undeclared emotions. 25 years later, Matias decides to reopen Pandora’s box as he comes face-to-face with Alexander. This film is a visual and emotional tour de force, celebrating friendship, love, and the sensitive, impressionable nature of growing up.
