July 4th Events & Fireworks in Winston-Salem

Winston-Salem knows how to celebrate Independence Day in style. After all, this is the city that hosted America’s very first documented Fourth of July celebration back in 1783. 

Nearly 250 years later, the red, white, and blue spirit is alive and well—and there are plenty of ways to get in on the fun. From pre-holiday festivals to big fireworks displays, here's how to celebrate locally.

Pre-July 4th Events

Rock Out the Quarry (June 27)

Held the weekend before July 4th, Winston-Salem's pre-holiday party lights up Quarry Park with live music, food trucks, and a dazzling drone light show—all set against the quarry cliffs. Performers include DJ Toney Tone and party band Phase Band. Bring lawn chairs and blankets, but note that pets, tents, and alcohol aren't allowed. Free shuttles run from Bowman Gray Stadium from 5–8:30 p.m. to transport guests to Quarry Park. (No parking at Quarry Park.)

Lewisville Independence Day Concert (June 28)

Shallowford Square kicks off the holiday weekend with a patriotic Presentation of Colors and live music from ON THE BORDER, one of the nation’s top Eagles tribute bands. Bring lawn chairs for a relaxing summer evening. Food trucks will be on-site. Coolers are allowed, but no alcohol or pets are permitted.

Dash Baseball: Independence Day Game (July 3) 

The Dash kick off Winston-Salem’s July 4th festivities with their annual Independence Day game, a day before the holiday. After the final out, stay for the city’s largest fireworks display lighting up the sky. (Regular promos like Pups in the Park and Thirsty Thursday will not be offered.)

• When: Wed., July 3,  6:30 p.m.

July 4th Events (daytime)

Old Salem July 4th Celebration

Experience Independence Day in the very town where the nation’s first documented July 4th celebration took place. Old Salem brings Revolutionary-era traditions to life with fife and drum performances, costumed brass bands, colonial games, trades demonstrations, a flag scavenger hunt, and live readings of the Declaration of Independence.

• When: July 4, 10 a.m.–4 p.m.
• Where: Old Salem
• Cost: Tickets start at $22; $12 students/kids (3 & under free)

Kernersville 4th of July Parade

Kernersville kicks off its July 4th celebration early with a morning parade through downtown. The route stretches a mile along East Mountain Street, starting near Kernersville Elementary and continuing southwest to Broad Street. Expect marching bands, festive floats, and plenty of candy for the kids. Bring your chairs and claim a viewing spot along the route (first come, first serve). Before the parade begins, the town is hosting its 30th annual July 4th 5K Run/Walk, beginning at 8 a.m. Sign-up details are available here.

July 4th Potluck at Miller Park

Join the Ardmore neighborhood for a festive July 4th picnic at beloved Miller Park. This free, family-friendly gathering features live music, games, face painting, and plenty of community spirit. Bring a lawn chair and a dish to share—picnic tables are available, but seating fills up fast.

July 4th Weekend at Wise Man

Looking for a laid-back way to celebrate? Wise Man Brewing is hosting three days of music, food, drinks, and fun throughout the July 4th weekend. From beer slushies and cider to non-alcoholic and THC-infused options, there’s something for everyone. Food trucks will be on site daily to 7 p.m.

• Friday, July 4: music from The Hourglass Kids, 8–11 p.m. (Free)
• Saturday, July 5: music from Ears to the Ground, 8–11 p.m. (Free)
• Sunday, July 6: Candle-making workshop, 2–4 p.m. ($44; includes materials). Vinyl Night, 5–7:30 p.m.

July 4th Events (evening)

Bolt, White & Blue Party

No baseball game? No problem, as the celebration at Truist Stadium rolls on despite the Dash being on the road. The family-friendly Bolt, White & Blue Stadium Party features a mix of live music, games, inflatables, face painting, a free kids zone, tie-dye station, and a fireworks show equal in size to the team’s July 3rd display.

Salem Band's Annual Stars & Stripes Concert

Celebrate July 4th with a free outdoor concert in Salem Square—the site of the country’s first official Independence Day celebration. The Salem Band, the nation’s oldest mixed-wind ensemble, will perform patriotic favorites under the stars. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. Food vendors will be on-site. Pre-concert music begins at 6:45 p.m.

• When: 7:30 p.m. (Rain date: July 5)
• Cost: Free; concessions available

Kernersville Fourth of July Concert & Fireworks

Cap off your Fourth in Kernersville with an evening of live music, nearly a dozen food trucks, and a fireworks display on the football field at Kernersville Elementary. Bring lawn chairs or blankets and settle in—fireworks launch around 9 p.m. No pets, alcohol, or sparklers allowed.

• When: Gates open at 5 p.m., fireworks start around 9
• Cost: Free; concessions available

ROAR Rooftop Celebration

Celebrate Independence Day from one of downtown Winston-Salem’s best rooftop views. ROAR’s fourth-story rooftop hosts live music by Ragtop Betty starting at 8 p.m., with a prime vantage point for local fireworks. Enjoy food, drinks, and access to all of ROAR’s entertainment—from boutique bowling to arcade games.

• When: ROAR is open all day;  live music at 8 p.m.
• Cost: Free admission; food, drinks, games available for purchase
