About
Botany has been a well-documented passion and hobby in Moravian towns for centuries. Both boys and girls were taught relevant botany skills through learning natural history, painting and sketching, and nature walks. This program explores both the artwork and botanical work of notable Moravian women of Salem in the 1800s. We will also try specimen documentation through watercolor in the same ways that the girls at Salem Academy would in the 19th century.
People of all plant knowledge and watercolor skill levels are welcome, and all program tools and materials will be provided. This workshop is suited for ages 12+, and we ask that all under the age of 18 are accompanied by a registered adult. Weather appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes are recommended!
