In the nearby community of Clemmons just 15 minutes from downtown Winston Salem, you’ll discover Tanglewood: a sprawling 1,100-acre park that serves as a recreation hub and community gathering place. The park borders the beautiful Yadkin River and its history runs deep.
From mixed used walking/biking trails to horse stables, from an aquatic center to two championship golf courses, from fishing lakes to gardens, from tennis courts to mountain biking trails, Tanglewood’s recreational opportunities and amenities are extensive. Tanglewood also hosts many festivals, concerts and events throughout the year, most notably the Festival of Lights, a drive-through holiday light display (mid-November to early January).

To enter Tanglewood and access its many amenities, it costs just $2 for a personal vehicle and $8 for passenger vans and buses. Please note: Motorcycles are prohibited.
There is a free use area. Turning left on to North Trail Road before the entry gate and park in the large lot across from the dog park. You can park for free and access the mixed-use trail system with just a few steps. These trails will provide you free access to the rest of the park but do require about a mile walk to reach the nearest amenities (the horse stables and tennis courts).
Park hours are seasonal and vary during certain periods. Hours range from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. depending on the time of year. Please check the Tanglewood Park website for updated hours and information as you plan your visit.

From downtown Winston Salem, a common route is to take US 421 N/Salem Parkway to I-40 and take Exit 182 for Harper Road toward Clemmons. From the exit turn left on to Harper and then turn right on to Clemmons at the light. The Tanglewood entrance will be on your left. From here, signage is available to help you navigate through the park to the various points of interest and amenities.
Nearly all amenities at Tanglewood have their own designated parking area that is just steps away. After paying your per vehicle entry fee at the entrance gate, there is no additional fee to park within the park.

Yes, Tanglewood features a network of trails perfect for walking, hiking and biking. There are about 6 miles of multi-use trails and another 5 miles of mountain biking trails.

Paved Multi Use Trails (Centrally located parking at Shelter #2 or in lot just before the stables)
- Red Trail: 2.2 miles; Loop; Easy
- Blue Trail: 3.1 miles, Out and Back; Easy
Note: The above trails are wheelchair accessible and feature benches, dog waste stations, trash cans and bike racks along the way.
Little Walden Nature Trail: 0.9 miles; Loop; Easy (Parking off Nature Trail Drive)
Yadkin River Nature Trail: 2.46 miles; Out and Back; Easy (To get to the trailhead follow the entrance road until you see River Birch Creek Road on your right. Pass the golf course on your left and drive down the one lane road. Parking will be on your left, across from Skilpot Lake.)
