Where to Find Winston-Salem’s Best Wings

From classic Buffalo to hickory-smoked wings, here’s where locals go and what to order.

Ask around Winston-Salem where to get the best wings, and you’ll hear a few strong opinions.

Some of the area’s favorite wing spots have been around since the 1980s and ’90s, building loyal followings over the decades. Winston-Salem is even the birthplace of East Coast Wings + Grill, which grew from a single local restaurant into a regional chain. From a longtime Clemmons pizza joint to a downtown brewpub, here are some local favorites to put on your list.

9 Top Wing Spots

 Waldo’s Wings

Open since 1991, Waldo’s Wings was one of Winston-Salem’s first restaurants dedicated to wings, and it remains a local family favorite. There are plenty of TVs to catch the game, and the walls are lined with NASCAR memorabilia and Joe Camel artwork.

Go bone-in or boneless with classic Buffalo sauce or a specialty flavor like Jamaican Jerk, Mandarin Orange Sesame Ginger, Honey Chipotle, or Gold Rush. The Wing Sampler Tray lets you try four flavors in one order. If you’re particular about your wings, you can get all flats or all drums for a small upcharge. When it comes to sides, go with the cheesy bread, a Waldo’s tradition.

Ronni’s Restaurant

A staple in the Lewisville-Clemmons area since 1982, Ronni’s is a no-frills spot known for pizza, wings, and cold beer. Pizza-and-wing combos come in several sizes, so they’re easy to share with family or friends. Wings come in five heat levels, from Mild to Nuke. Try a flavor like Cheerwine BBQ, Jala Mango, Citrus Chipotle, or Korean Pepper on its own, or ask for it tossed with your preferred heat level.

Little Richard’s

If you like your wings smoky, head to Little Richard’s Bar-N-Que along Stratford Road in Winston-Salem. The jumbo wings are hickory-smoked, then served dry with the house Soul Rub, a blend of 18 herbs and spices, or grilled with your choice of sauce.

Options include Carolina Gold, Alabama White, Korean BBQ, and Voodoo, the restaurant’s spin on Buffalo hot sauce. Find Little Richard’s on South Stratford Road in Winston-Salem, with other locations in Clemmons and Walkertown..

Burke Street Pizza

Started in 2003 by a native New Yorker, Burke Street Pizza is best known for its New York-style pies, but the jumbo wings are worth ordering, too. Stick with traditional Mild or Hot, or try Sweet Chili, Lemon Pepper, or Hot Garlic Parmesan, a local favorite. Head to the original location on Burke Street near downtown or the one on Robinhood Road.

Camel City BBQ Factory

A mainstay in the downtown dining scene, Camel City BBQ Factory built its name on pit-smoked barbecue, and its wings get the same treatment. Try the slow-smoked wings with Lexington-style barbecue sauce, or get them with a side of onion rings in the Wings and Rings combo. If you’re bringing the kids, save some time for the spacious arcade and game room upstairs.

Foothills Brewpub

Wings and a pint are an easy order at Foothills Brewpub, a Fourth Street mainstay for more than two decades. Get your wings house-smoked with a brown sugar dry rub or classic fried with your choice of sauce. Try the barbecue sauce made with Foothills’ Hoppyum IPA. The menu also covers burgers, sandwiches, and other pub favorites, making it a good stop for groups with different tastes.

The Hungry Palate

At The Hungry Palate on Fourth Street downtown, jumbo wings come with your choice of dry rub or sauce, including the signature Eric’s Hot. It’s a good spot to catch Sunday football, and there’s a rotating wing flavor if you want to try something new. For a taste of Buffalo, N.Y., order the beef on weck. The classic roast beef sandwich comes with four wings on the side.

Wings-N-Fins

Wings-N-Fins got its start as a food truck in 2016 and opened a brick-and-mortar restaurant on Old Rural Hall Road in 2024. The Wings-N-Fins Combo lets you try both sides of the menu with four wings, four shrimp, a piece of whiting or catfish, a side, and a drink. Whatever you order, ask for some Moose Juice. Despite the name, it’s the house sauce, and you can buy it by the bottle to take home.

East Coast Wings + Grill

The lone chain on our list, East Coast Wings has locations across the Carolinas, but the company is still based in Winston-Salem, and you can visit the original location on Country Club Road. It’s family-friendly, with plenty of TVs for catching a game. And the wings? They're the real deal. In fact, East Coast's hot sauce took first place in the traditional hot sauce category at the 2010 National Buffalo Wing Festival.

Choose bone-in or boneless wings, then pick from more than 50 flavors and seven heat levels, from Virgin (no heat) to Insanity. The menu also covers burgers, sandwiches, salads, and quesadillas. Save room for the Original Cookie Skillet, a warm chocolate chip cookie topped with vanilla ice cream.
