About

Introducing Field Trips, a series of community art excursions to spaces that are shaping the arts and culture landscape in our region. Don't miss NCMA Winston-Salem's first-ever Field Trip at the West Salem Art Hotel. An artful lodging space and creative hub, the hotel includes two Art/partments, four ensuites, an art gallery, a gift shop, and a solarium that doubles as an event space. With art exhibitions, outdoor film screenings, and seasonal festivals, the West Salem Art Hotel is a home for community-centered experiences with art in Winston-Salem's West Salem neighborhood. Learn more at wsarthotel.com.

This Field Trip will coincide with the opening of Winston-Salem-based artist Corrie Beck's latest exhibition. Participants will have the opportunity to experience her work, explore the hotel's unique spaces, and connect with fellow art lovers.

West Salem Art Hotel

The West Salem Art Hotel is an art-forward boutique hotel and living gallery founded by visual artist Haydee Thompson. The hotel grew out of her original concept, the Wherehouse Art Hotel, and carries forward its spirit of collaboration, experimentation, and artist-centered hospitality.

Original artwork covers every wall, with pieces by local and national artists displayed throughout the building and available for purchase, as well as murals by Gina Franco, Laura Lashley, and Zac Trainor.

More than a place to sleep, the West Salem Art Hotel functions as a cultural hub, hosting exhibitions, workshops, residencies, and community events, offering what Thompson calls "artful lodging and lodging for art" — a place where creativity is not just displayed, but lived.

Field Trips

Field Trips are a series of community art excursions to local, arts-based organizations and institutions for an inside look at spaces that are shaping the cultural landscape in the North Carolina triad. The monthly meet-ups are led by NCMA Winston-Salem's Manager of Audience Engagement and may include collaborative artmaking, movement or sound explorations, guided tours, or creative prompts. Like the field trips of our childhoods, they combine fun and learning, all while showcasing unique, local entities that are rooted in the arts.
