About
Experience an evening where music, imagery, and storytelling converge in a powerful and immersive program. Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition is brought to life with film, transforming this beloved work into a vivid, multi-sensory journey through art and sound.
The program also features Gala Flagello’s The Bird-While, a compelling and contemporary concerto inspired by Keith Taylor’s poem Acolytes in the Bird-While. This evocative work reflects on the fragility of natural ecosystems and the human struggle to endure amid climate change.
Highlighting the evening are distinguished guest artists from “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band: Master Gunnery Sgt. Elisabeth Plunk (flute), Gunnery Sgt. Kristin Bowers (clarinet), Gunnery Sgt. Sara Matayoshi (violin), and Gunnery Sgt. Clayton Vaughn (cello). Their virtuosic performances bring extraordinary depth and brilliance to this urgent and thought-provoking music.
Opening the concert is Percy Grainger’s spirited Molly on the Shore, a vibrant and rhythmically inventive work that sets the stage for an evening of energy, reflection, and artistic exploration.
