What's happening in September in Winston-Salem? LOTS. Here's a lineup of can't-miss events.
Summer may be winding down, but there are still plenty of events happening around Winston-Salem this month! You can enjoy multiple festivals like the Hispanic League’s Annual Fiesta; Winston-Salem Food Truck Festival; and the Beer, Bourbon, and BBQ Festival. Football season is kicking off at Wake Forest University and WSSU. Catch live music at popular venues like The Ramkat or head to one of the last games of the season for the Winston-Salem Dash. Whatever you’re into, there’s an event happening for you.
September 4 – Sunset Salutation: Community Yoga
6–7 p.m. Bring your yoga mat, water, and wear comfy clothes to this to this free, all-levels yoga class in Bailey Park. Held on the first Thursday of each month, you’ll want to arrive early to claim your spot. In case of rain, class moves to the Wake Forest Biotech Place Atrium.
September 5 – Downtown Arts District 1st Friday Gallery Hop
7–10 p.m. Along the 600 block of Trade Street and 200 block of 6th Street, you’ll find community art, dancing, music, food trucks, and more. Check out the local galleries of the Downtown Arts District.
September 5 - 7 – Forsyth Gem and Mining Show
Located at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds, vendors will be set up selling mineral and fossil materials, custom jewelry, and jewelry components, along with live demonstrations. Adult tickets are $3 and children are free.
September 5 - 7 – Salem Bach Festival by Music Carolina
This festival is a collaboration between Home Moravian Church and Augsburg Lutheran Church and explores Bach’s French influences along with the interplay between Bluegrass and Baroque dance. Admission is free for all concerts.
September 6 – Beer, Bourbon, and BBQ Festival
12–6 p.m. Coming to Winston-Salem for the first time, your ticket to Beer, Bourbon, & BBQ Festival includes a sampling glass and all you care to taste of beer and bourbon. Vendors will be set up in the Fairgrounds selling BBQ and there will be live entertainment, games, and more! General admission is $45 plus taxes and fees, while VIP tickets are $75 plus taxes and fees.
September 6 – Wake Forest University vs. Western Carolina University

September 6 – International Village Food and Music Festival
11 a.m. – 5 p.m. This free annual festival begins with a Naturalization Ceremony, followed by a Food & Music Festival starting at 12 p.m. Come out to Winston Square Park and enjoy diverse global dishes from food trucks, plus a wide variety of entertainment from musicians and cultural organizations.
September 6 – Southeast Crab Feast
1–5 p.m. If you love seafood, this is the event for you. It includes all you can eat blue crabs plus one side of fish and chips. Soda and water will be on sale, and there will be live entertainment in Bolton Park. Adult tickets are $40 when purchased before September 3 while kids age 5 to 11 are $15.
September 6 – Lewisville Music Under the Stars
7–9 p.m. Grab a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy a free evening concert in Lewisville's Shallowford Square during this summertime concert series. This month's headliner is Landslide - A Tribute Band to Fleetwood Mac. Concessions will be available, and coolers are welcome, but pets and alcohol are not permitted.
September 7 – Angelos Artisan Fall Market
12–5 p.m. Celebrating their 9th year, Angelo’s Artisan Market celebrates local makers and artisans selling their handmade items. The event takes place at Wise Man Brewing, where there will be food trucks and live music.
September 11 – Wake Forest University vs. NC State

September 12 – Innovation and Cinema: La Bamba
7–10 p.m. Come out to Bailey Park for the next movie in their free Innovation and Cinema series, La Bamba. The movie follows the story behind the artist and song, “La Bamba,” which was released in 1958 and was the first Spanish song to reach number one on American music charts.
September 12 - 21 – Winston-Salem Theatre Alliance Presents Hairspray!
Winner of eight Tony Awards, this is the perfect musical for the whole family! Set in 1962 Baltimore, the story follows Tracy Turnblad as she navigates life after landing a dance role on the popular "Corny Collins Show." Adult tickets are $25.
September 13 – Oktoberfest & Dirty Dozen 5k Obstacle Fun Run
8 a.m. – 12 p.m. Enjoy the games, food, and beer pit of Oktoberfest with the option to participate in the 5k and Obstacle Mud Run. You’ll run and crawl through mud and climb over various obstacles all to support health programs for the community. Entrance to Oktoberfest is free. The 5k race fee starts at $65 while the 1 mile Fun Run starts at $30.
September 13 – WSSU Rams vs. Lincoln University Lions
Get lost in the Red Sea of Sound and cheer on the home team at Bowman Gray Stadium for Winston-Salem State University's first home game of the season. The theme is Greek Night, so wear your letter shirts and practice your step routine before filing into the stadium.
September 13 – Latin Dancing Nights at AFAS
7–11 p.m. Every second Saturday, you can start the night with a salsa dance lesson, then stay for the social dance party. Join fellow dance lovers for a night of dancing, fun, and connection! Entrance is $10 per person.
September 13 - 14 – Rad Rides at the Park
This two-day car and truck show is hosted at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons, just a short drive from Winston-Salem. There will be awards, an art auction raising money for Toys for Tots, and a 50/50 raffle. Admission for spectators is $5.
September 14 – Winston-Salem Food Truck Festival
1–7 p.m. Food trucks from all over the state will line E. 9th Street, along with live entertainment plus beer and wine vendors. This coincides with Arts on Fire just steps away at Mixxer Community Makerspace.
September 14 – Arts on Fire
10 a.m. – 10 p.m. The highlight of Arts on Fire is their annual Iron Pour, where upcycled metal is melted down and turned into works of art. Along with the Iron Pour, there will be other craft demonstrations and vendors selling their handcrafted items.
September 16 – Wake Forest University's Face to Face Series with Earvin "Magic" Johnson
7:30 p.m. Not only is Johnson a basketball legend, but he’s also a successful businessman spanning multiple industries. He co-owns multiple professional sports teams in the NFL, MLB, WNBA, and eSports industry, to name a few. Tickets start at $95.
September 19 – Art Crush
7–10 p.m. Head to the Downtown Arts District for Art Crush, a free block party featuring live music, artists, street vendors, kids’ activities, and more. Events happen on the third Friday of each month and are centered around 6th and Trade Streets.
September 20 – BunFest 2025
11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Support animals in need by attending the Southeast’s only rabbit-themed festival. There will be adoptable animals, interactive exhibits, bunny meet and greets, and more. Tickets start at $9.99.
September 20 – Park Yoga Series
10 a.m. This free, all-levels yoga class, is in partnership with VYB Studio and complete with a live DJ to enhance the experience. Make sure to bring your yoga mat and some water.
September 20 – Hispanic League Annual FIESTA!
11 a.m. – 7 p.m. Help kick off Hispanic Heritage Month in downtown Winston-Salem with music, dancing, and plenty of Latin American food. Admission is free.
September 20 – WSSU Rams vs. Virginia State University
It's hard to beat the energy of a home game at Bowman Gray Stadium, so grab your tickets and head to the stands as the WSSU Rams take on the Virginia State University Trojans. This game is a "black out" night, so pull out your favorite black jeans + WSSU t-shirt combo to feel like a true local.
September 20 - 21 – Wise Man Oktoberfest
You don’t want to miss Wise Man Brewing's biggest event of the year, which includes German-style beer, live music, German cuisine, and classic Oktoberfest contests.
September 20 - 21 – Marsalis + Tchaikovsky
Classical music lovers can enjoy two performances held at the R.J. Reynolds Auditorium over the weekend. Wynton Marsalis’s violin concerto features guest violinist Kelly Hall-Tompkins and blends soulful and intense virtuosity with jazzy New Orleans romp. The program opens with the William Tell Overture and includes Tchaikovsky’s Fifth. Tickets start at $29.
September 21 – Tour Pour du Jour at The Graylyn Estate
4–6 p.m. Learn about the Gray Family’s beginnings and their stunning estate on this guided tour of the manor house. Ticket includes appetizers and wine in the Library. $60 per person.
September 25 – Kernersville's Music at Twilight
6–8 p.m. Bring a blanket or chair and experience the Paul J. Ciener Botanical Gardens in the beautiful early evening light. XcentriX will be playing, there is free admission, and food and beverages will be available for purchase.
September 25 - 28 – Bookmarks 20th Annual Festival of Books & Authors
This annual event has become the largest book festival in the Carolinas and is a must for any book lover. Over the four days, you can attend keynote sessions, the Books & Bites event, and the festival on Saturday. The keynote sessions and Books & Bites are ticketed events.
September 27 – Wake Forest University vs. Georgia Tech

September 27 – Cricket's Nest Fall Festival
9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Here you’ll find locally crafted art, decor, and gifts, along with food, drinks, and baked goods all available for purchase. Vendors will be set up inside and outside the South Fork Community Center.
September 27 – Apple Festival at Historic Bethabara Park
9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Explore history with eighteenth-century craftsmen, play Colonial games, have your face painted, and enjoy delicious apples at this family-friendly festival. Listen to regional musicians as you browse the food and craft vendors. Admission is free, but there are charges for food and crafts.
September 27 – Lakeside Concert: Bob Mould & Jared Robbins
7–10 p.m. Experience the performance of musicians Bob Mould and J. Robbins in this lakeside setting at the NCMA Winston-Salem. Tickets are $36.
Throughout the Month
Reynolda: Camel City: Tobacco & Transformation, 1875-1964
Reynolda’s new exhibition traces the rise of RJ Reynolds Tobacco amid the company's 150th anniversary. Rare artifacts, historic images, bold advertising, and fine art commissions reveal how RJR shaped Winston-Salem and influenced consumer culture worldwide. The exhibit runs through Jan. 4, 2026.
Reynolda House Presents Leigh Ann Hallberg: Phenoms
Beginning on September 20 and running through October 19, Leigh Ann Hallberg’s Phenoms series will be on display at the Reynolda House. Hallberg has taught painting at Wake Forest University since 1999, and her Phenoms series includes large-scale abstract paintings that were inspired by her journey through local landscapes.
NCMA Exhibit: Brandon Sadler: The Path of Totality
This immersive exhibition at NCMA Winston-Salem spotlights famed artist Brandon Salder, whose works blend calligraphy, mythology, and East Asian art traditions. The exhibit will remain on display through Dec. 27.
