About

We are pleased to announce the new date for this program, and postponing due to winter weather in January. Join us for a profoundly moving and educational experience as Holocaust survivor Dr. Alexander "Lex" Silbiger shares his personal story of resilience, survival, and hope. Through firsthand testimony, Dr. Silbiger will reflect on his life under Nazi occupation, his journey seeking asylum, and the refugee experiences that ultimately led him to the United States and, eventually North Carolina. He is also the author of Our Great Escape: The Story of a Dutch Family's Flight from Persecution (1942-1943), which chronicles his family's escape and survival during the Holocaust.

The event will also include a 42-panel Holocaust exhibit from the North Carolina Council on the Holocaust, providing additional historical context and reflection for attendees.

Rabbi Charlie Cytron-Walker of Temple Emanuel will lead a memorial candle-lighting ceremony, with a musical piece by Temple Emanuel Music Director Jason McKinney.

Purchase Dr. Silbiger's book ahead of time, and he will sign copies after the program. Buy "Our Great Escape" here: http://bit.ly/47waH5VBookmarks will be on hand selling other Holocaust history related books.

Attention all WSFCS Social Studies and ELA teachers: Enter for a chance to win one of two classroom sets (30 copies) of Dr. Silbiger's book at this link: https://forms.gle/uvKkxBYY74rY6nkq9
