Sam "The Dot Man" McMillan (1926-2018) was a nationally famous local folk/"outsider" artist in Winston-Salem. A recent exhibit was curated by the Arts Council in 2024 of his work. His studio and store is located at 701 W Northwest Blvd, directly across from Hanes Dye and Finish where he originally worked. His work painting furniture for the owner’s wife gave him a start in his work on painted objects. He painted not only traditional paintings but all types of found objects with his distinctive style
