About

Wake Forest University’s Face to Face Speaker Forum brings world-class speakers to Winston-Salem on an annual basis. The events in each season cover a variety of topics, including political affairs, arts and culture, innovation and business, and social justice and global issues. Face to Face will welcome Ken Burns to Wait Chapel on October 21st. A widely acclaimed documentary filmmaker, he is the recipient of 17 Emmy Awards and two Grammy Awards and has directed and produced some of the most watched historical documentaries ever made, including “The Civil War,” “Baseball,” “The Vietnam War” and, most recently, “The American Revolution.”

Journalist Frank Bruni will moderate the Keynote with filmmaker Ken Burns on October 21. Bruni is a journalist and bestselling author who served as a staff writer at The New York Times for more than 25 years. During that time, he worked as a White House correspondent, the Rome bureau chief, the paper’s chief restaurant critic and op-ed columnist. Still affiliated with the paper, he is now a contributing opinion writer and maintains a weekly newsletter offering reflections on the mess (and magic) of politics and life. Bruni is the author of five New York Times bestsellers including, most recently, “The Age of Grievance,” a deep dive into why Americans are so angry and what can be done about it.
