Meet the VWS Team: Jerica Yingling

Meet Jerica Yingling, Sales Support Manager at Visit Winston-Salem! After getting her start in the world of hospitality behind the scenes as a professional chef, Jerica brings the flavor to Winston-Salem’s sales team with top notch support and next level service for groups of all sizes.

Tell us about your career journey before joining Visit Winston-Salem.

“I’ve always had a passion for serving people. Though, my journey in hospitality began as a professional chef. For many years, I ran restaurants for hotels & resorts. So, I have always been serving communities & travelers throughout my career- though in a different capacity. And, when I decided to grow my experience & pursue another career path – this was such a natural fit. I have a unique perspective of what visitors are seeking & how best to serve them, since I have the benefit of viewing their needs through another lens of hospitality.”

What do you love most about working with the Visit Winston-Salem team?

“You know, I’ve always loved a great story. And, being here, you meet people from every walk of life, from all kinds of different places. Each and every person has a different story to tell. And learning more about different places, histories, & cultures not only enriches my life, but inspires me even more to tell our story! Winston-Salem has such a rich history with so much to offer. I have the privilege of serving not only our community, but each person who visits us. Truly, it’s a joy to have the opportunity to connect with so many different people & share what we love about our city.”

What's your favorite activity outside of work?

“My husband & I really enjoy construction & renovating (call us crazy). But, when we aren’t busy de-constructing and re-constructing something, we really enjoy exploring downtown. I didn’t grow up in North Carolina, and we moved here at the height of the pandemic. So, when the world started opening back up, we wanted to immerse ourselves in everything Winston-Salem. Lately we have been really enjoy taking our dog on a walk to Long Branch Trail by Bailey Park. It’s peaceful & you get such a beautiful view of the cityscape as a backdrop. The best part is that it’s still close enough to walk over to a concert in the Coal Pit once you’re done or have a gelato in the park.”

As a former chef, what are some of your favorite foodie hot spots in Winston-Salem?

"I do have to say, ‘Once a chef…always a chef.’ You never really put your knives & apron away for good! Kidding aside…now that I don’t have a career as a chef, I’m able to enjoy all the wonderful culinary delights that others have to offer! There are far too many great options here to list them all! But some of my family’s favorites include—in no particular order: Curry & Noodle, Barcelona, ByGood Coffee, The Spotted Cow, Chad’s Chai, Rooster’s… the list goes on.”

What makes Winston-Salem a great destination for meetings, conventions, and groups?

“There are so many different reasons why Winston-Salem is a perfect place for people to come together for an event. The top reason of many must be all the people that serve our groups…from the hotel staff, local restauranteurs, & tour guide operators, to our information specialists right here at the visitor center. The hospitality community here truly has a heart for serving people. They go the extra mile to make people feel welcome & have a memorable experience here in Winston-Salem. They are the heartbeat of the city. One of the many reasons why I love our city for meetings & groups though is the size of the city itself. Winston-Salem is diverse & has all the conveniences you love and expect about a larger city. But, where it differs from a larger city is that it’s still very walkable, easy to navigate, and explore. It is the best of both worlds!”
