Heirloom Gardens

Dig into our history, plant a memory

Winston-Salem has several impressive historic and heirloom gardens that tell the rich agricultural history of our city. From gorgeous blooms of hydrangeas and sunflowers to fragrant herbs and leafy vegetables, these gardens are worth wandering through. The earliest known community garden was planted in 1759 by members of the first North Carolina Moravian settlement. Since then, we’ve stuck to our roots (literally!) and maintained these historical gardens for visitors to enjoy.
