Dive Deeper: Explore the Moravian Archives

If you are curious about the written traditions of the Moravian people or just love an excuse to dive deep into centuries-old text and artifacts, expand your historic exploration of Old Salem at the Moravian Archives.

Tours must be scheduled in advance, and visitors can expect a unique and immersive experience that is a must-see for history buffs. The Archives hold centuries of diaries, letters, town records, and manuscripts that provide unmatched insight into daily life in Wachovia, the Moravian settlement tract.

Walk Through Time at Historic Bethabara Park

A costumed interpreter at Historic Bethabara Park showcases traditional Moravian hobbies and crafts to a group tour.

Founded in 1753, this National Historic Landmark marks the original settlement of the area by Moravian settlers. Begin your tour at the Visitor Center then explore through the restored Gemeinhaus church, reconstructed fort palisade, archaeological sites, and the oldest medicinal garden in the US.

Many visitors enjoy pairing Bethabara with Old Salem because the two sites create a compelling before-and-after of Moravian life: Bethabara as the original frontier settlement and Old Salem as the more established town that grew from it.
